Emmy-Winning “MAS*H” Actress Loretta Swit Passes Away

According to cinemadrame News Agency, Loretta Swit, who played “Major Margaret ‘Hot Lips’ Houlihan” in the CBS series “MAS*H” from 1972 to 1983, has passed away. For this role, she received two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and four Golden Globe nominations.

Apart from “MAS*H,” Swit had acting credits in series such as “Mission: Impossible,” “Gunsmoke,” “Hawaii Five-O,” and “The Love Boat,” and did voice acting in “Batman: The Animated Series.” Additionally, she appeared in several feature films and television movies, including “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” and “Race With the Devil.”

Her last film was “Play the Flute” in 2019, and she was slated to appear in “Second Chances,” which is in pre-production. She also had a theater background, performing in the Broadway play “Same Time, Next Year” in 1975.

Swit never had children but married Dennis Holahan, an actor from “MAS*H,” in 1983, divorcing him in 1995. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1989. In the 1970s, she told People that she had no desire to marry: “I love my work and my friends. I can’t imagine a happier life.”
